I constantly get back to the need of better mapping my fingertips on Linux, and at the same time I don’t have much energy to rice it up like people do this on Reddit’s [/r/unixporn](https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/). The UX of customizing Linux UX is not that great. The thought of messing with dotfiles and overwriting new features and settings with my ancient copies is heavy. Dragging them around to every server is burdensome. The absence of magic tools that can detect missing features I used to and propose to restore them. The absence of magic tools that can watch and offer a fix for my bad habits. No time to DIY. And that’s my story for today. What’s yours?

Not sure I can add much to this other than just generally being interested in UX for Linux and wanting to hear more! We don’t have enough resources and info out there about these kinds of design + OSS.

I understand that my story is a bit Epic. I should have started with how I want to map Alt-F1 and Alt-F2 to choose directory to open a file browser. 😃 It also doesn’t describe who am I, why I want this and what do I want to achieve. And in that state it should be hard to address. Still decided to share about this challenge I will solve one day. I wonder what other such challenges people have in the works, or endlessly postponed like me? What is your current UX job to be done?

I’m currently balancing a huge amount of different ideas and tasks around design in open source 😅 currently trying to build a ‘sustainable’ contribution team at Open Food network and a few other projects I help mentor others on.
