I feel like jumping right in and crafting an algorithm to distribute funds among FOSS maintainers could very easily lead to large inequalities between certain types of projects. Given many countries around the world (Cuba, Vietnam, China, etc.) have used economic planning fairly heavily, I bet there’s a lot to learn from their experiences.
