We had the first Sustain Together for year 2024 last week. Our next call is happening Friday, 26 January, 16:00-17:00 UTC 2 (12pm ET / 9 am PT)

Here’s a summary of the last weeks meeting:

• List of OSS events in 2024: @mesreyame Has curated a list that covers most of the major OSS events. Another similar website is https://foss.events/

• Sustain Africa 2023 Community Report: Here is a report from the Sustain event that was hosted at OSCAFest 2023. * Richards will be releasing the podcasts with the people who attended the event. You can find the podcasts here on Sustain Podcasts. We also have a blog here: Blog | A Space for Open Source Sustainers. If you want to write posts anything related to Sustain, feel free contact @RichardLitt .

  • Action item: Create an RSS feed for the blog

• Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) metrics: Breaking barriers in Open Source: CHAOSS arranged interviews to understand the impact of DEI metrics and the views around them. The article talks about the results.

  • You can learn more about CHAOSS and these metrics by from the community. Check their calender: CHAOSS Calendar

• The I in LLM stands for intelligence: Daniel Stenberg, the author of Curl, wrote a blog post about AI and how it is making it difficult for him to deal with AI-generated rubbish reports. Although there is not enough open data about the impact, it’s good he’s sharing his experience.

  • A possible solution to consider could be having AI tools that to detect AI-generated reports. Dependabot is also famous for generating way too many PRs.

• [Cyber Resilience Act: CRA has moved forward, affecting OSS, lately, it is one of the biggest problems in OSS space. There is OS Steward exception, but it’s still not perfect.

• Feedback on ClimateTriage: ClimateTriage, a project from Tobias Augspurger. Feel free to help him out. Andrew Nesbitt is working with him behind the scenes.

• Another event to check out is the Creative Freedom Summit 2024

Cyber Resilience Act: it’s time to act to #FixTheCRA!: CRA has moved forward, affecting OSS, lately, it is one of the biggest problems in OSS space. There is OS Steward exception, but it’s still not perfect.

careful with this because it’s an old post. The CRA has been reviewed heavily since then. The next step is to shape the guidelines for its application, a task that will start later in 2024.
